The good news about Barracuda just keeps on coming. This time it comes from the IDC Worldwide Trackers, which have recently reported the following good news:
From the Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, Q2, September 2013: Barracuda leads the market in content security appliance and virtual appliance units with a 14 percent market share. This marks the 11th consecutive quarter that Barracuda has maintained market leadership in the content security appliance and virtual appliance markets by volume according to the IDC Tracker.
From the Worldwide Purpose-Built Backup Appliance (PBBA) Q2, September 2013: Barracuda shipped the highest volume of integrated systems. The report also indicated that Barracuda Backup ranked number two based on total units sold.

IDC reported that Barracuda is the volume leader in security appliances, which include the following:

Best-of-breed spam and virus blocking, data protection, DoS prevention, email continuity, encryption and policy management | Enables connected businesses to benefit from new technologies and online tools without being exposed to malicious content, lost productivity, wasted bandwidth and data loss |
Both of these solutions are available as physical and virtual appliances. Barracuda also provides pure cloud and hybrid cloud versions of its content security offerings through the Barracuda Email Security Service and the Barracuda Web Security Service.
“Security continues to be a key issue for companies,” said John Grady, Research Manager, IDC. “Barracuda's market leadership shows that the company's strategy of providing powerful yet affordable security solutions and award-winning customer support is an attractive combination for customers.”
The leadership of Barracuda Backup in the PBBA tracker is also very exciting. From the IDC press release:
“The total worldwide PBBA market continued to outpace the External Disk System market by a wide margin in the second quarter of 2013. The worldwide PBBA market continues to experience strong growth in revenue, capacity, and shipments,” said Robert Amatruda, Research Director, Data Protection and Recovery. “We believe that appliance-based protection and recovery has taken root in customers' environments as a simplified approach to meet their backup and recovery challenges”
Barracuda grew revenue 31 percent year-over-year, over four-times faster growth than the overall PBBA market. With features such as Cloud LiveBoot, huge local caches, and off-site vaulting, it's no surprise that Barracuda Backup continues to gain ground in this space.
