There's no shortage of complaints about passwords. Users think they are too hard, admins think they are too easy, and attackers have huge wordlists and automated bots to crack even the more secure passwords. The password as an access key just isn't what it used to be.
Developers are looking for ways to replace the password, and so far they've thrown out a handful of ideas:
- Apps like Launchkey and OneID, which provide multi-factor authentication without passwords
- The cool new SQRL (Secure Quick Reliable Login) pitched by Steve Gibson
- Tattoos, swallowable pills, and brainwaves
(Oh my!)
I suspect that users will be more comfortable with an app or a QR code (SQRL) than a tattoo. Just throwing it out there.
