Global RallyCross Barracuda et RedBull

Barracuda is no stranger to racing, but this year we traded our Indycar for the Barracuda Racing Ford Fiesta.   We've renewed our partnership with Bryan Herta Autosport, picked up driver Austin Dyne, and brought this guy to the RedBull Global Rallycross:

Like all rally cars, this Ford Fiesta started out as a factory production car.  To qualify for rally racing, the cars get significant improvements so that they can meet these performance demands:

  • 600 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds
  • Physically withstand 70′ jumps
  • Physically, structurally withstand contact with other vehicles
  • Electronic traction aids are not allowed

Once the cars are ready, Global Rallycross competitors take on some of the most diverse and technically challenging tracks in motorsports.  Global Rallycross tracks vary, but they are usually about 1/2 – 1 mile in length and feature a mix of dirt, asphalt, mud, and ramps. 

Our driver Austin Dyne is from Los Angeles and has been racing since he was 15.  He began racing go-karts in 2007 and moved up to Formula cars in 2010.  In 2012 he advanced to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series where we won the Rookie of the Year title.  He then started with Global Rallycross Lites before coming to Global Rallycross Supercars this year. 

Austin has already competed in Barbados and XGames Austin, and this weekend he'll be competing in Round 3:  Volkswagen Rallycross DC.  This round takes place at RFK Staium in Washington DC.  If you can't make it to the event, you can probably catch it on a major network.
