Back in the day, and for a long time, email-borne cyber threats mostly carried malicious payloads — viruses, worms, or Trojans disguised as innocuous or useful documents. To detect and block them, Barracuda and others developed email gateways that contained a frequently updated list of virus signatures to look for as it inspected each inbound email.
Email threats have come a long way since then, and so have gateway, or “rules-based” defenses. By connecting to an Advanced Threat Protection service, these defenses can even detect previously unknown malware with no known signature, as well as links to malicious URLs. So, rules-based email security capabilities are still a critical part of your security infrastructure.
But there’s one type or attack that rules-based defenses are not reliably able to detect and block: phishing and similar threats that carry no malicious payload and rely on social engineering to achieve their goals — typically financial fraud or credential theft, which can result in devastating data breaches or worse.
Discover new tech to defeat evolved email threats
In a live webinar taking place on March 2, 2022, Barracuda Principal Product Manager Olesia Klevchuk and Senior Product Manager Prebh Dev Singh will provide a deep dive into the new generation of email security products — such as Barracuda Phishing and Impersonation Protection and Barracuda Account Takeover Protection — that use artificial intelligence and machine learning to close the detection gap by spotting and blocking phishing attempts.
Attend the webinar and you’ll have a front-row seat to find out:
- How today’s advanced phishing attacks evade traditional detection measures and employ sophisticated means to trick even highly attentive users
- How an integrated security infrastructure that combines rules-based and machine-learning detection is needed to achieve comprehensive protection against the modern email-threat landscape
- How new solutions use machine learning to build a detailed model of your entire organization’s internal and external communication patterns, enabling them to identify phishing attempts with tremendous accuracy
Plus, you’ll get to see this technology in action, as Olesia and Prebh walk you through a live demo of how it all works in the real world.
Adaptation is the key to survival
Old-timers like me might be nostalgic for the days when a new virus appeared once every few months, sending the whole IT security industry into a frenzy to be the first to dissect it and provide an updated signature file. But dwelling in the past — or relying on no-longer-sufficient security strategies in the face of fast-evolving threats — is a recipe for disaster.
If you want to keep your organization safe against the most advanced threats that cyber-criminals are determined to send your way, then I strongly recommend you attend this important and informative webinar.
